PDL (Pharmaceutical Defence Limited) is a member-owned, not-for-profit organisation providing Professional Indemnity (PI) insurance and risk management support to Australian pharmacists, pharmacy interns and students.
PDL partners with many organisations from across the profession, including NAPSA and the branch committees. PDL works collaboratively with the NAPSA team to support pharmacy students and provides funding for their events and other initiatives.
Can pharmacy students become a PDL member?
Yes, and it’s FREE!
PDL encourages all pharmacy students to become a member to access the exclusive services and benefits and to secure professional indemnity (PI) insurance.
As a student, you are automatically registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) from the time you enrol in your studies.
Student registration includes some of the responsibilities of other registered practitioners so it is possible you will need advice and support. These responsibilities may be relevant during placement or when employed as a pharmacy student. It is beneficial for all students to have a PDL membership, even when they are not practising pharmacists.
Examples of the PDL Master Policy providing student members with assistance include:
When you become an intern pharmacist (provisionally registered), is it a requirement of the Pharmacy Board of Australia (PBA) that all interns have PI insurance. Your PDL membership, including PI insurance, will remain free during your internship.
