What Do We Do

NAPSA's many initiatives

Charity Cup

Supporting the work of great organisations
Charity Shape

Each year the NAPSA branches compete to collect the most donations to an Australian charity. From bake sales to cocktail evenings and BBQs to raffles, our branches employ every tool at their disposal to support a good cause. When one takes home the trophy it’s a celebration of the efforts of every single one of our members across the country.

What charity did we support in 2024?

Our most recent Charity Cup saw us collect donations for QENDO, a not-for-profit organisation supporting those affected by endometriosis and other pelvic health-related conditions across Australia and New Zealand. Over $21,000 was raised, and for the third year in a row our Tasmanian Association of Pharmacy Students took home the grand prize.

The national team at NAPSA and our branches get together annually to select our preferred charity from a shortlist of strong contenders

Vampire Cup

Supporting the health of our communities
Vampire Shape

As future health professionals we understand the dire supply shortage of blood in Australia, as over 1.7 million donations must be made each year in order to meet rising demand. To do our part, NAPSA branches compete to donate the most blood.

What about those who can’t donate blood?

NAPSA wholeheartedly supports the push to allow men who have sex with men to donate blood and plasma, as the world moves forward from measures introduced during the HIV/AIDS crisis.

Every branch will be able to decide how it wants to approach the Cup, but in most cases all you need to do is register yourself under your branch name and head to your nearest donation centre. It’s that simple.

Advocacy Work

Supporting our members and patients
Advocacy Work Shape

NAPSA is the peak representative body for pharmacy students, and as such has a significant role in policy development and advocacy. We make representations to state and federal government, peak bodies and other organisations to achieve serious outcomes for our members. As future health professionals we also have a vested interest in the health of our patients, and will continue to advocate on their behalf.

How do students make an impact?

Through policy submissions, campaigning, attendance at relevant events and other initiatives, the NAPSA team is strengthened by the backing of thousands of members. With this backing, politicians and industry leaders listen.

Pharmacy is rapidly changing, and for the better. As the industry explores new avenues for pharmacists to utilise their expertise, NAPSA continues to advocate for more student opportunities. This includes consistent student vaccinating legislation across the Commonwealth and greater action on placement poverty.

NPSS Survey

Supporting all pharmacy students
E Placebo Shape

The National Pharmacy Students’ Survey is open to all pharmacy students in Australia, and is an annual survey designed to make their voices heard. Results of the survey are presented to key industry stakeholders, who can base their decisions on what tomorrow’s pharmacists see for their future, be it hopeful or uncertain.

What do students get out of it?

Other than getting their concerns and ideas to the movers and shakers of our industry, students go into the running to receive a number of enticing prizes.

It’s difficult to keep your ear to the ground in the many universities across Australia, so what better way to understand the next generation than to hear it directly from them?

APSJ

Supporting quality research
Apsj Shape 2

The Australian Pharmacy Students’ Journal is the only peer-reviewed pharmacy student journal in the world, providing students with the opportunity to develop research skills and publish their work. NAPSA believes that targeting research at a student level will increase employability, develop a research culture and positively impact the future of the profession.

What is in the journal?

The APSJ accepts submissions from students in the form of original research articles, academic review articles, qualitative research articles, case reports, academic viewpoint, feature articles and opinion pieces.

Keep an eye out on our socials and the APSJ website for notice of submissions opening. It’s as easy as creating an APSJ account, filling in the cover sheet form and submitting!
