NAPSA at PSA16
The National Australian Pharmacy Students' Association (NAPSA) today congratulated The Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA) on the support demonstrated for their inaugural Residency Program commencing in 2017.
"Thirty-two accreditation applications representing 54 hospitals is an outstanding result for this first accreditation round", said NAPSA President Ms Shefali Parekh. "Importantly, it's providing potential opportunities for over 130 early career pharmacists to fast-track their professional development by participating in an intensive experiential learning residency program".
"NAPSA is committed to advocating for Australian pharmacy students to ensure their future is prosperous. We recognise that a future pharmacy workforce must evolve to ensure it has the capacity, capability and flexibility to function within an ever-changing healthcare system", said Ms Parekh.
"But to achieve this capability, future pharmacists need not just solid undergraduate training, but challenging and innovative workplace learning like that to be delivered by the SHPA Residency Program", said Ms Parekh.
Immediate past Vice-President of NAPSA and NAPSA nominee to the SHPA Residency Project Steering Committee, Mr Matthew Scott said, "it's been an exciting opportunity to be part of the Committee and contribute the perspective of students who will ultimately benefit from the SHPA Residency Program".
"Entering my intern year next year, I know this is the sort of experiential learning I want and expect if I am to maximise my contribution to patient care as a pharmacist", said Mr Scott.
"Having NAPSA representation on the steering committee is just another example of the great partnership between NAPSA and SHPA. NAPSA is proud to be in a working partnership with the SHPA as it means both organisations continue to share ideas and innovation on what initiatives will be of mutual benefit to our members", said Ms Shefali Parekh.
